I had heard great things about this place, and I was rather disappointed. I was there for my birthday with friends, and between the portion sizes, which were quite disappointing in some cases (the ravioli, only three on the plate), and the foie gras served with just two pieces of bread, all this only to be served a large basket of leftovers after the starter... Considering the reviews from friends who had been there before me, I suppose it's an isolated case, but those who were with me that day unfortunately agree with this assessment.

Endless wait, slightly undersized portions, and decent food, nothing more. Two years later, we returned for lunch, still a group of seven. It took over two and a half hours to get a starter and a main course that were neither very convincing. The fish sauce was inedible, so acidic, and the portions hadn't increased—even a big appetite will be hungry. So we skipped dessert and went elsewhere. The choice of dishes wasn't great, and the food was mediocre. We ate outside in a pleasant setting, but the "background" music was extremely intrusive and unpleasant; it felt like we were at a fair. This was our second visit, but we didn't enjoy it at all, despite the friendly waiters. It was also our last. Once is a fluke, but not twice!

An extremely disappointing experience and a clear lack of transparency If you book a table at La Cantine de Candie, I strongly advise you to ask beforehand if there is a wedding planned for the day of your visit. This will save you, as we did, from a very unpleasant surprise. I had booked for my husband's birthday, imagining dinner in the setting described by the restaurant: a beautiful castle, a lovely room, a beautiful table, and an atmosphere befitting the location. What a disappointment it was to arrive and discover that a wedding was being held at the same time and that we had not been informed at all when we made the reservation. We were seated in the breakfast room, between packets of cornflakes and jars of jam, at tables completely unsuitable for dinner. Ours was so low that it was impossible to slide our legs under the table or even move our chair closer. All this in a room with flickering lights, crooked picture frames, dust on the shelves… In short, absolutely nothing like the experience we thought we had booked, despite the venue's advertising. And the most incomprehensible thing is the complete lack of information or even an apology from the person at reception (who was very unpleasant, by the way). No goodwill gesture, no discount, nothing. Why should we pay the same price for a service that, in reality, has absolutely nothing to do with what is usually offered at this establishment? The meal itself was okay, but nothing special. The staff was attentive and present, but several hiccups compounded this disappointment. We had specifically requested a delay between the aperitif and the starter. The waiter told us 15 minutes. Yet, barely 5 minutes after our cocktails arrived, the starter was already served. So we had to drink our aperitif while eating our main course: cold cromesquis and italicus. I don't recommend it! If the goal is to maximize profitability by keeping the restaurant open during weddings, then why not? But in that case, the very least they could do is clearly inform customers at the time of booking and give them the option to keep their reservation or not. Failing that, perhaps they should simply close the restaurant on days when the usual ambiance and conditions cannot be provided. We came to celebrate a birthday in an elegant setting. Instead, we felt relegated to a charmless room, without any prior warning, while still paying the usual price. A huge disappointment, and above all, a lack of transparency that I find particularly regrettable.

It's a great compromise, allowing you to enjoy excellent cuisine in a pleasant and elegant setting while remaining affordable. The portions are very well proportioned, and the waiters and waitresses are very polite and friendly!

Despite a superb setting and undeniable potential, the evening was not a resounding success. We waited over an hour and fifteen minutes just for an aperitif (and water, which we had to fetch from the bar). When the waiter finally brought it, he was followed by a second waiter with... the main courses. We told them we weren't in a particular hurry but that we didn't want to eat our main course with the aperitif, especially since we had ordered a bottle of wine. They offered to let us take the main courses home. So we were able to enjoy our aperitif! The main courses arrived much later: pieces of beef, uninteresting and poorly cooked. The terrace ended up in darkness, with some tables without lights. The cleanliness of the restrooms needs improvement. The serving staff seemed lost and inexperienced, with no manager in charge to guide them. Where was the owner? We explained our disappointment and received a gesture of goodwill; they told us, "You were lucky, you got your plates!" We really expected better, what a shame.

The setting is magnificent and the quality of the food is undeniable, but the experience was unfortunately ruined by the complete lack of temperature control. It was 30 degrees Celsius in the dining room, a stifling and simply unbearable heat that made the meal extremely uncomfortable from beginning to end. Only two standing fans for the entire room! This is a real disappointment for an establishment of this caliber, especially since the lack of responsiveness to this problem spoiled the dining experience. It's a shame, because the potential and the skill in the kitchen are clearly evident, but it's impossible to have a good time in such conditions.

We went to the restaurant as a family on the evening of July 13th. We waited an hour and a half to receive our five courses. The restaurant was very busy, but the staff didn't say a word to explain the reason for the wait. We had to get up once to ask for water. Then a second time, because it still hadn't been brought to us despite our repeated requests. Finally, after an hour and a half, we got up a third time to ask about our food, stating that we were ready to leave if the wait continued. Only then were our meals served. Once again, we were told that water would be brought to us, but it never arrived. Not a word from the staff or the waiter regarding this delay, even though we verbally expressed our dissatisfaction, making it clear that it wasn't directed at anyone in particular. Obviously, we didn't bother ordering desserts. No compensation was offered for the wait. We won't be returning, despite the beautiful setting.

It's rare that I'm disappointed by a restaurant. The setting is very nice, and it's only accessible by car. However, the wait is very long, far too long: We waited 1 hour and 15 minutes for our main courses, with a total wait time of 1 hour and 30 minutes. We didn't even bother ordering dessert. The waiters could have provided some information, but unfortunately, we were left in the dark and without water, which is unacceptable in the summer. It's worth noting that the waiters were very friendly and went out of their way to provide good service to all the customers, but the kitchen had too many covers to serve. Regarding the meal, the mixed platter (large size) was well-stocked, although we were disappointed that the sausage was served whole, uncut. The meal itself was good, but the side dishes were a bit sparse for the poultry and fish. The interior rooms are very dark and not very pleasant in the evening with the air conditioning blasting while the doors are wide open to the terrace... As it stands, I cannot recommend the restaurant. There's nothing to compensate for the shortcomings. Perhaps we'll return and I could change this rating.

The setting is beautiful and the dishes are original and of fairly good quality for the price. But the service is appalling. We had a reservation for 8 pm, and by 9 pm we still hadn't been served anything, not even a carafe of water. Shameful for this kind of place.

A truly wonderful discovery! The setting is particularly pleasant and perfect for a convivial atmosphere. The food is excellent, with flavorful and generous portions. As for the staff, they deserve special mention: welcoming, very friendly, and highly professional. You immediately feel at ease and perfectly taken care of. A place we happily recommend and where we will gladly return!
